Why do I push myself so much?
In the middle of writing a book, handling client work, and resisting the urge to run outside and play in my vegetable garden… I said yes to moderating a program sponsored by two of my favorite associations the International Bar Association and the Legal Marketing Association.
The topic is one close to my heart. How to use social media for business development.
I would put money on the fact that there will be another post highlighting the discussion with the fascinating trio of Gary Assim, Nancy Myrland and Lewis Grimm.
Why would I take on more when I already have so much going on?
Three reasons:
It energizes me.
When I get to be part of a program on a topic I care deeply about, it fuels me. Preparing for it gives me a reason to dig into new research, connect with smart people, and see what’s cutting-edge. I always learn something new in the process of preparing.
It gives me perspective.
Sometimes stepping away from the day-to-day brings a surprising burst of creativity. Whether it’s a comment from a panelist or seeing a familiar face pop up on the webinar screen—it can change how I see things.
It builds connections.
In this hybrid world, how else do I get to say hello to friends in Ukraine and Peru… and meet new ones along the way? These conversations open doors.
There will be a follow-up post with lessons learned from these sessions. But for now, Lucy (my dog and occasional life coach) are going outside to check the garden.
